Historical
With its long and colourful history, Portugal has many historical points of interest. These include a number of beautiful chapels and churches, a large percentage of which are only a short drive away from Albufeira. For some one of a kind holiday snaps, try SantAna Church - it’s one of Albufeira’s most popular attractions. Misericordia Chapel and the 18th century Church of So Sebastio are also worth a visit.
But by far the most impressive site of historical significance in the region is Paderne’s ruined castle. Nestled on a hilltop far from the nearest village, this castle was liberated from Moor occupation in 1248 by Dom Paulo Peres Correia and it acts as the perfect backdrop to a Portuguese sunset.
Natural Beauty
The Algarve region is rife with areas of natural beauty, so much so, in fact, that we found it hard to pick just a couple of highlights but here they are. The caverns at Ponte Grande and Grutas do Xorino are a magnificent sight to behold, as are the Algar Seco Caves. The Monchique mountain range is also worth a visit. The peak of the Fóia has a maximum altitude of 906m and if you can make the trek, it offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Algarve. After having visited one of the highest points in Portugal, you may wish to visit its southwesternmost point - Cabo de Vicente. Cabo de Vicente’s cliff face is home to an assortment of wildlife, including eagles, kites and falcons.
Zoomarine
If you fancy a day out with a difference on your holiday, Zoomarine is the place to go. Not only is it a water park, it also has a large aquarium that is home to sharks, turtles, alligators and tropical fish. There are also sea lions and seals shows, and if you’re lucky, you may get the chance to swim with dolphins.
Aqualand
Aqualand is one of the region’s most popular water parks. It has an array of white knuckle attractions that will satisfy even the hardiest of daredevils. These include the Anaconda corkscrew slide, rapids white water rafting, flying carpets, Congo River, Banzai Boggan and Kamikaze - the highest slide in Portugal.
Aqualand also has a swimming pool with a wave machine, a children’s pool, restaurants and sun loungers for more family orientated groups. What’s more, it’s only 15 km from Albufeira.
Krazy World
There will be plenty to entertain your little ones at Krazy World. In addition to the petting zoo where you can get to know pigs, wallabies, deer, goats and llamas; there is go-karting, a funfair, a swimming pool, an on-site restaurant and two 18-hole crazy golf courses. You’ll also enjoy access to Amazonia and watching Krazy World’s handle residents including macaws, turtles, snakes, alligators and crocodiles.
For those of you that like your leisure pursuits to be slightly more laid back, the Clube Praia da Oura offers a seasonal schedule of theme weeks that is open to all Apartments in Albufeira customers.
